Customer's own fabric or leather

COM/COL order form

You can supply your own fabric or leather (COM/COL) for upholstered pieces. Download the form, fill in one for each material and email it to hello@shohaus.com. Send it before you buy, so we can review the material first.

How it works

Download the COM/COL form (PDF)
Download the COM/COL form (PDF)
  1. Download the fillable PDF and fill in one form for each material.
  2. Email it to hello@shohaus.com before you buy the material.
  3. Ship the material to our El Segundo studio with the sidemark below.

Railroaded or up the bolt

Upholstery fabric usually comes on a bolt 54 inches wide. Up the bolt, the fabric's length runs from the floor to the top of the piece, so a piece wider than the fabric is pieced together with vertical seams. Railroaded fabric is turned on its side so its length runs across the piece. A long sofa back then needs no vertical seams, but the height of the piece has to fit within the fabric width. Patterns and stripes turn with the fabric, so railroaded stripes run sideways. If you aren't sure, choose "Let the workroom decide."

COM/COL policies

  1. Review first. We recommend letting Shohaus review your material before you buy it. If material we haven't reviewed arrives and isn't suitable for the piece, replacing it is up to you.
  2. Patterns. Patterned fabric may need extra yardage. Note any placement requests on this form and we'll confirm them with you before you buy.
  3. Up the bolt. Running fabric up the bolt on a piece wider than the fabric adds seams.
  4. Leather and oversized pieces. On leather hides, and on oversized pieces wider than the material, we follow the workroom's recommended seam placement unless you tell us otherwise in advance.
  5. Backing. We don't offer a fabric backing service. If your fabric isn't made for upholstery, have a third party back it before it ships to us, or send us a cutting so we can assess it.
  6. Faux leather. Faux leather needs a cutting for approval (CFA) before you buy it.
  7. Shipping from abroad. Material shipped from outside the U.S. must arrive DDP (duties paid).
  8. Timing. If you supply your own fabric (COM/COL), production cannot start until it arrives.
